Learn how to make potstickers with crispy outsides and tender insides. This guide shows you how to pan-fry them to golden perfection.

Are you ready to enjoy delicious potstickers at home? These tasty dumplings are loved for their crispy outside and soft inside. In this guide, I’ll show you how to prepare and pan-fry potstickers to perfection. Whether you’re a beginner or just want to improve your skills, you’ll find easy steps to make this delightful dish. Let’s get started!

Homemade vs. Store-Bought Potstickers

Potstickers, or dumplings as some call them, hold a special place in my home. They always satisfy with their crispy, golden outside and juicy, tasty inside. For as long as I can remember, they’ve been my favorite meal.

Nowadays, you can easily find frozen potstickers in any grocery store, with many flavors and styles to choose from.

I’ve tried store-bought potstickers a few times, but they just don’t compare to the magic of my homemade vegan potstickers. So, here’s my advice: give making your own a try. It’s worth it! When you make them yourself, you can choose exactly what goes inside, customizing them to fit your taste.

However, if you’re looking for convenience, store-bought potstickers or dumplings will still work just fine for making perfectly golden pan-fried potstickers.

The Magic of Pan-Fried Potstickers

Let’s talk about pan-fried potstickers—they’re not just a snack; they’re also a whole experience! That crispy outside, combined with a burst of flavor inside, is hard to resist. Honestly, I haven’t met anyone who doesn’t love the charm of pan-fried potstickers.

I’ve been making my own potstickers for almost my entire life, ever since I was tall enough to stand at the stove. While healthier options like boiling or steaming are also great, today, let’s focus on the magic of pan-frying. I’m excited to share the secrets to getting that perfect balance, making each bite a wonderful mix of crispy and tasty.

Perfect Pan-Fried Potstickers with Dipping Sauce

Are you ready to prepare the perfect pan-fried potstickers? Let me show you just how easy it is to make these delicious dumplings so you can enjoy them again and again!

How to pan fry potstickers

Ingredients:

  • 1-2 tablespoons of oil
  • Potstickers of your choice
  • 1/4 cup of water

Instructions:

  1. Heat the Pan: Start by heating a spacious, non-stick frying pan over medium heat.

  2. Add Oil: Then, pour in the oil and let it heat up, making sure the pan is nice and warm.

  3. Place Potstickers: Gently add the potstickers or dumplings to the pan, leaving some space between each one.

  4. Add Water: After about 2 minutes, carefully add 1/8 cup of water to the pan. This helps steam the potstickers while pan-frying, giving them a soft texture and reducing the need for extra oil. Also, be cautious, as the water may splatter in the hot oil.

  5. Cover and Sizzle: Be sure to cover the pan and let the potstickers sizzle for about 5-8 minutes.

  6. Turn Them Over: Then, carefully flip the potstickers and check for a golden-brown color on the bottom.

  7. Add Remaining Water: After turning them, pour in the remaining water and continue pan-frying for another 5-8 minutes, checking for doneness.

  8. Enjoy: Once they are beautifully golden brown, take a moment to savor the enticing aroma, then enjoy your delicious potstickers!

The combination of crispy and tender textures will leave you wanting more!

Now, with your favorite dipping sauce ready, drizzle, dip, and enjoy!

Why Pan-Fry Potstickers?

For me, pan-frying is the best way to prepare potstickers, and here’s why. First, it gives you more control over the cooking process. You can choose how much oil to use based on your preference. For a healthier option, use less oil and add more water for softer dumplings. If you want a crispier texture, simply use a bit more oil.

Pan-frying creates that perfect crispy outside while keeping the inside juicy, without soaking them in excess oil. While pan-frying isn’t as healthy as boiling or steaming, the taste—especially with a delicious dipping sauce—is unbeatable. Plus, they make a fantastic appetizer or party snack!
